SPECIAL SERVICES

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is accessible to
everyone. All galleries and installations have
wheelchair access. Our Volunteer Guides and
educators have training and experience working
with groups with a wide variety of disabilities:
hearing and visual impairments, physical and
mental handicaps, as well as mental illnesses
and learning disabilities.

The Education and Public Programmes Department
provides services using three different approaches,
depending on the requirements of the situation.

1. OFFERING SPECIAL SERVICES

  · For people who are deaf or hard of hearing, we offer activities with the
    assistance of an interpreter in LSQ (Langue signée du Québec)
    or ASL (American Sign Language).

  · For people who are blind or visually impaired, we offer descriptive and tactile tours.

  · For people who have a physical disability or impaired mobility,
    we can provide wheelchairs.

2. ADAPTING ACTIVITIES TO SUIT YOUR SPECIFIC NEEDS

  · Since the pace of a visit is a little slower with some people,
    we can extend the activity.

  · Since some people with disabilities need more individual attention,
    we can lower the ratio of participants to guide or educator.

  · Since some individuals may need repeat visits, we can offer
    a multi-visit programme.

3. DEVELOPING THE CONTENT OF A TOUR OR ACTIVITY

    We can offer certain themes on request. Please let us know what your needs are
    and we will gladly try to meet them. An important aspect of the "Sharing the Museum"
    project is our open attitude and willingness to listen.The Education and Public
    Programmes staff has a great deal of experience teaching art and art history,
    and we will work with you, who know yourgroups so well, to tailor our approach to
